Great leaders continue to shape our world for the better. Being a Spiritual Movement focussed on bringing about spiritual change, Humanity’s Team acknowledges and celebrates those who are doing so in exceptional ways.

Humanity’s Team is a global spiritual movement; represented in almost 100 countries, on six continents, their primary focus being to ‘awaken the world to oneness’.

Humanity’s Team who promotes an open enquiry into God/life, is delighted to announce that Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who is regarded globally for his vision, compassion, and building of bridges, has recently decided to accept their global spiritual leadership award.

Humanity’s Team acknowledges Archbishop Tutu’s dedication to solving some of the world's most insurmountable challenges with his capacity for forgiveness, his vision for unity and peace, his outspokenness for injustice, his value for human rights, and his wonderful humour, to name a few of his exemplary accomplishments and continued pursuits.

Archbishop Tutu is highly regarded as a leading elder of the global society; also displayed through his role as the head of The Elders. Like The Elders and Archbishop Tutu, Humanity’s Team has a deep concern for the challenges facing all of the people of our world.

Humanity’s Team views Archbishop Tutu as a catalyst for change, a value that is strongly promoted by Humanity’s Team through their operating principle; Be the change you wish to see in the world.

Like the Elders and Archbishop Tutu, Humanity’s Team also seeks new approaches to seemingly intractable global issues. As such, Humanity’s Team promotes the idea of oneness as the core solution to humanity’s continuing problems. Looking closely it is clear that the idea of oneness is an ancient (elder!) idea that is reflected in all of the world’s spiritual teachings. This idea is waiting to be awakened.

Archbishop Tutu’s never hesitates to call for the recognition of the inter-relatedness, inter-dependence, and inter-connectedness of all of life. As such he always also considers ‘the other’ in every situation; also the ‘bad guy’ and he never hesitates to call on the world to wake up; for humanity to raise his/her consciousness.

In line with Humanity’s Team, Archbishop Tutu calls for the recognition of our common humanity -- that we are all one, that our destinies are bound up in another's, and that we complement each other as essential parts of a greater whole.

Humanity’s Team SA recognizes the idea of uBuntu as their local cultural expression of oneness, and regards Archbishop Tutu as one of the fathers of uBuntu. Being an advocate of the African philosophy of uBuntu, and with unity being one of the primary values of uBuntu, Archbishop Tutu is especially proud to receive this award from Humanity’s Team.

Archbishop Tutu will be receiving the Spiritual Leadership Award at Humanity’s Team Oneness Summit 2009… Awakening the Spirit of uBuntu, that will take place at the Freedom Park Amphitheatre, Pretoria, on the 18th April.

The global Oneness Summit will also feature guest speaker, Professor Shadrack Gutto of the African Renaissance Center, UNISA, among other dignitaries such as the global council members of Humanity’s Team who will be in SA for their annual Global Council meeting that takes place at the Protea Hotel on the Kruger Gate the week following the event.

Renowned sports legend and TV presenter, Gary Bailey (a proactive member of Humanity’s Team since its inception) will be the Master of Ceremonies.

The public is invited to attend the auspicious global event, as well as partake in the smorgasbord of festivities and entertainment. Highlights include a performance of the nationally acclaimed theatre production, “African Crossing”. The show’s 12-piece cast consists of lead vocalist Joseph Clark, soprano Yollandi Nortjie, the Gaabo Motho Tenors and the vibrant traditional dancing and voices of Amakhono We Sinto. The talented group of artists will perform an eclectic mix of opera, African, pop and rock. Guest artist, André Hattingh will infuse the atmosphere with appropriately evocative songs of love and change.

Tickets are available through www.computicket.com Gates open at 13h00 (Optional guided tour of Freedom Park & access to the exhibition hall). Lunch, drinks, books, CD's and other related items will be on sale. Official programme starts at 15h45.

Humanity’s Team considers it a great privilege to give this award to Archbishop Tutu and is extremely honoured that he has agreed to accept it.
